Marlboro Township School District G&T Programs

The following information has been taken from the district's curriculum webpages on the Marlboro Township Public Schools' website (viewable to the public).

Reading Enrichment Programs

Kindergarten through Third Grade

Students are pulled out of their regular classes for additional content specific enrichment. Students can be eligible for reading enrichment or math enrichment or for both programs. Students in kindergarten and grade one participate for the second half of the school year, and students in grades two through three participate for a full year.

Eligibility:

  • For our Kindergarten and First Grade students, eligibility is determined by demonstration of strong performance on district assessments and teacher recommendation.  At a minimum, a grade one student's reading level comprehension and fluency must be 2 years above grade level to enter this program. Please see the district placement criteria page for the current program requirements.
  • Students who will be entering into grades two and three are identified through a two-step process. The students who score a Guided Reading Level as stated on the Gifted Reading Placement Criteria, along with the other criteria listed, will be invited to participate in a district assessment. This is scored by the gifted and talented teachers to determine eligibility.

What is the CogAT?

The Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) is used here in Marlboro as a screening measure to test students’ learned reasoning abilities in the areas of Verbal, Quantitative, and Nonverbal abilities. It is a norm-referenced, formal test administered in grades one, three, and five by the classroom teacher.

Parents will be notified of testing and of the results upon completion. Results can take several months to be tabulated and distributed.
