Fluency in Addition and Subtraction

Fluency of addition and subtraction facts through 5 is assessed on the kindergarten report card. This is one area that I have found students have the most trouble.  They are able to add and subtract, but the automaticity of it needs extra practice.  When shown an equation, the expectation is that your child provides the answer in 2 seconds.

Making flashcards to practice these equations is a great idea.

The following are the equations your child should know fluently by the end of kindergarten:

1+0=               1+1=              2+1=             3+1=             4+1=

2+0=              1+2=              2+2=            3+2=

3+0=              1+3=              2+3=

4+0=              1+4=

5+0=

1-0=             5-4=            4-3=         3-2=         2-1=         1-1=

2-0=            5-3=             4-2=         3-1=

3-0=            5-2=             4-1=
