As discussed at Back to School Night, Mrs. Smith and I offer test corrections to students following math tests/quizzes. In previous years, we only offered corrections to students who did not do well on the assessment to earn back some points. This year, we are choosing to offer this opportunity to all students. This allows all students to review their work and learn from their mistakes. These corrections require students to go back to the lesson slides and practice the skills the have not yet mastered. It also gives a second chance to correct careless mistakes.

In order to receive credit, students must first write down the question number and what they did incorrectly. For example, this can look like "On question 3 I accidentally added the digits rather than subtracted". Then, students must complete the problem again correctly. They may use our class slides, notes, and/or anchor charts.

Each corrected answer, along with an accurate description of the mistake, will earn the student credit back on the question. The points will then be added back to the test/quiz and a note will go in the Parent Portal stating the original score and the new score with corrections.

These corrections will be done at home and are OPTIONAL. We hope that students will take responsibility for their learning and want to review their work to better understand the concepts taught. If a student truly showed they did not understand the material throughout the assessment, Mrs. Smith or I will pull that child in a small group or individually to complete corrections together to reteach as needed.

Students will have to hand in corrections (unless they are completed with a teacher) within TWO DAYS of a returned assessment. We will not be asking for these corrections, as we want to teach students to be responsible.
