Literacy

We will be working on many reading comprehension skills this year. To practice these skills, we will be using Making Meaning, trade books, and non-fiction texts! Some skills that we will cover this year are: 

• Using text evidence 

• Making inferences

• Finding the main idea/supporting details 

• Summarizing

• Cause & effect, and much more!

Writing

The third grade writing curriculum will focus on four main writing styles. Over the course of each marking period, we will learn about and practice these skills in great detail. The four writing styles that we will cover this year are:

• Narrative Writing

• Informative Writing

• Opinion/Persuasive Writing

• Research Writing

*Throughout the year, students will also be learning how to cite explicit evidence in their writing. They will cite evidence from various sources such as texts, poetry, and videos.*
